The International Conference “Greek Craftsmanship – Contemporary Trends and Prospects” aspires to serve as a meaningful platform for dialogue and knowledge exchange among academics, researchers, creators, and cultural policy stakeholders from Greece and abroad. Through a multi-thematic program spanning three days of proceedings, critical issues are highlighted, including the revival of craftsmanship, education and training, entrepreneurship, as well as the integration of craft production into contemporary value chains and international practices.

The opening day of the conference sets the framework for discussion, featuring institutional addresses and presentations that focus on the strategic restructuring of the sector, alongside the introduction of innovative educational programs aimed at strengthening craft skills. The exhibition of graduates’ works showcases in practice the creative outcomes of these efforts, bridging learning with artistic and professional expression.

During the second day, attention is directed toward the mapping of raw materials and value chains, international experiences, and best practices that shape a new, sustainable development model for craftsmanship. At the same time, the role of museums, collections, and cultural organizations in preserving and promoting intangible cultural heritage is highlighted, while the multiple dimensions of craftsmanship are examined in relation to art, design, and society.

The third day of the conference focuses on linking education with entrepreneurship, presenting successful examples and international approaches that position craftsmanship as a field of innovation and economic activity. Particular emphasis is placed on the challenges of sustainability, social resilience, and adaptation within an ever-changing global environment.

This conference aims to contribute substantially to the development of a contemporary strategy for Greek craftsmanship, strengthening the connection between tradition and knowledge, research, education, and innovation. Through collaboration and an interdisciplinary approach, new perspectives emerge for empowering the sector and ensuring the continuity of a valuable cultural heritage into the future.
