OPEN CALL:Sound Art Master’s programme at University of Music and Theatre Munich

The Master’s programme in Sound Art offers forward-looking training for those interested in sound art, sound installations and sound research with a particular focus on digital media and their implications. Students develop individual concepts at the highest artistic level in contemporary focus areas. In addition to pursuing an independent artistic career, graduates can find employment in the media industry or, for example, as soundscape designers in industrial or museum contexts.

Focus areas
Acoustic ecology, interspecies performances, approaching the other:
Approaching the (non-)human with the aim of establishing a continuous discourse with our environment, conveying and developing encounter and empathy towards others and our environment.

Sonification, materiality, instrumentality, change of perspective: Approaching (digital/hybrid) structures, their nature, their transience, their inherent aesthetics, developing an understanding and reinterpretation of everyday phenomena.

Hearing and sound staging as a political act: Sound is always political; listening (e.g. Pauline Oliveros’ “Deep Listening”), but also producing sound (e.g. Günter Grass’ “The Tin Drum”) can create moods and point the way forward.

Application deadline: May 31
