OPEN CALL: Open Residency Programme 2027 MASEREEL
MASEREEL—Centre for Contemporary Art welcomes applications from artists wishing to develop their practice during a six-week residency in Kasterlee, Belgium.
Artists from around the world, at any stage of their careers and working across all visual disciplines, come to MASEREEL to explore the possibilities offered by its professionally equipped printmaking studios, engage in exchanges with fellow residents and visiting tutors, and create within a stimulating natural setting. Prior experience in printmaking is not required—specialised master printers are available daily to instruct and support residents throughout their process.
From April to December 2027, MASEREEL will host three residency periods, each accommodating up to nine artists. All participants are housed in a newly built artist pavilion that combines private living quarters with shared communal spaces, fostering both individual focus and collective dialogue.
MASEREEL’s international residency programme centres on development, critical thinking, creation, and dialogue, rather than production-driven output.
More information about this Open Call for Development Residencies—including participation fees, residency dates, application guidelines, selection criteria, and the online application form—is available on MASEREEL’s website.
OPEN MASEREEL
Join us on Saturday, June 6 and Sunday, June 7 for the inauguration of our new artist pavilion, presented as part of the vibrant OPEN MASEREEL arts festival.
Over the course of the weekend, MASEREEL will premiere newly commissioned works by Carlotta Bailly-Borg, Sammy Baloji, Julien Meert, and Shervin/e Sheikh Rezaei, alongside a new outdoor sculpture by Daniel Dewar & Grégory Gicquel.
The programme also features solo presentations by alumni Gerard Herman, Serene Hui, Lili Huston-Herterich, Felix Kindermann, Sandrine Morgante, and Josse Pyl, as well as a new artist publication by Patrick Van Caeckenbergh.
Complementing these presentations is a curated public programme of performances, artist talks, and music sets.
About MASEREEL
Initiated in 1972 in northern Belgium, MASEREEL is a centre for contemporary art that combines a dynamic, artist-driven artistic programme with an international residency programme for artists and critics, with a dedicated emphasis on printed matter in its broadest sense.
In recent years, the MASEREEL residency programme has developed into a rigorous environment for contemporary artistic research and development. Its exceptional printmaking facilities and natural setting, combined with a distinctly international, multidisciplinary, and intergenerational community, foster an atmosphere of experimentation and critical exchange. This constellation enables participants to expand and deepen their practice within a context that challenges conventional boundaries while stimulating personal narratives.
MASEREEL is an initiative of the Flemish Community.
