OPEN CALL:CCA Islands Travel Scholarship 2026–27
CCA Islands offers CCA Travel Scholarship for emerging artists, curators, architects, designers and those who aim to be a professional in various areas of contemporary art and culture, pursuing their research and creative activities in Japan.
The scholarship offers research expenses of JPY 200,000 and covers one return transportation fare (only to/from Japan) according to CCA Islands terms and conditions (In the case of residing in Japan, transportation expenses for one round trip between the two locations in Japan is provided). Preference will be given to applicants under 35 years of age.
Recipients are expected to stay in Japan for a period of four to eight weeks between September 1, 2026, and March 31, 2027. A final research report must be submitted at the end of the stay.
Application requirements
Curator: Work experience in contemporary art or majored in art/art history.
Architect/Designer: Work experience by running a private office or being engaged in equivalent activities.
Artist: No specific requirements.
All applicants should ideally be up to 35 years of age.

The materials required to all applicants
–Research proposal (Maximum 1,000 words).
–Provisional research schedule.
–Budget plan except for airfare to/from Japan. (In the case of residing in Japan, please exclude transportation expenses for domestic round-trip).
–Curriculum Vitae (CV).
Curator/historian/researcher
A cover letter summarizing recent professional work mainly on art exhibitions, publication and art projects, not in excess of 500 words.
Artist/designer/architect
The image of your works, for five works in minimum, and ten works in maximum, including the caption, description, title, year, materials, project description. Please do not submit more than ten images. For time-based media, such as film, video, and sound, please submit no more than five minutes of material (not five min for each file, the total duration of all your works must be five minutes).
Submission guidelines for artist/designer/architect
Number of works: Minimum five, maximum ten works. / File limit: Up to ten files in total. / Accepted formats: PDF, Video, and Audio files only. / PDF format: Each work must be summarized on one A4 page. / Required information: Each work must include its title, year, medium, and description. / Total file size: Maximum one GB for all files combined. Please compress files (e.g., MP4) to stay within this limit. Submissions exceeding one GB will not be accepted. / Time limit (media): The total duration of all video and audio files combined must be within five minutes. / Prohibition: YouTube links or any external website links are strictly prohibited. Please upload files directly.
The result will be announced around June 2026.
