OPEN CALL: John Michael Kohler Arts Center Applications To 2027 Arts/Industry Residency

The John Michael Kohler Arts Center is now accepting applications for the 2027 Arts/Industry residency, a three-month program hosted by Kohler Co. in Kohler, Wisconsin. More than 600 artists have benefited from this celebrated artist residency since its beginning in 1974. The funded industrial residency enables artists to produce ambitious new works in vitreous china, cast iron, and brass.

Kohler Co. will host four artists at a time for the three-month residency: within each cohort, two residents work in the Kohler Co. Pottery and two in the Foundry. Advance experience working with clay or metal is not required—simply an interest in adapting industrial processes to the artist’s practice.

In addition to 24/7 studio access, residents receive free industrial materials, use of equipment, technical support, photographic services, housing, round-trip transportation, and a monthly honorarium. Residents may choose to work in the Pottery or Foundry.

Arts/Industry is a collaboration between the John Michael Kohler Arts Center, a nonprofit arts organization in Sheboygan, WI, and Kohler Co., the global kitchen and bath manufacturing company headquartered in nearby Kohler, WI. The program is funded by both the JMKAC and Kohler.

Applications for the 2027 residency are due February 28, 2026.

Arts/Industry residencies are three months in length and divided into three cohorts. There are four artists-in-residence in each cohort—two in Pottery and two in Foundry. Residents are expected to commit to the full three-month period. Artists-in-residence receive 24-hour access to studio space, industrial materials, use of equipment, technical assistance, photographic services, housing, round-trip transportation, and a modest weekly stipend.
