MIRAGES LXXX
February is a month full of exhibitions, and this time we dedicate it to Paris, beginning with an overview and then a journey through the month to the major exhibitions at museums and foundations, while not forgetting the artists and architects who have left their mark on art and are connected with this particular month.
Our tour of Paris starts in the city center at the Fondation Cartier, in its new home at Place du Palais-Royal, where works from its collection are on display. Continuing with a 9–12 minute walk, you will encounter photography at the Jeu de Paume at Place de la Concorde; we distinguish out the exhibition by Martin Parr entitled “Global Warning”. After 15 minutes, crossing the Champs-Élysées, you reach the Grand Palais, where you will see several very interesting exhibitions, first by Eva Jospin entitled “Grottesco” and Claire Tabouret entitled “D’un seul souffle” and another exhibition titled “Drawing Outside the Lines – Masterpieces from the Centre Pompidou’s Collection”, since the Centre Pompidou is closed for five years for renovations—and “Transparency”, the first exhibition of The Palais des enfants, a new space dedicated to children aged 2 to 10 and their carers!
At Palais de Tokyo you will find a series of very fine exhibitions: the group exhibition “ECHO DELAY REVERB: American Art, Francophone Thought” explores the history of the transatlantic circulation of forms and ideas through the works of some sixty artists, bringing together a wide variety of mediums and a number of new commissions. Also, as part of the carte blanche invitation the Palais de Tokyo is presenting a major retrospective dedicated to sculptor Melvin Edwards—an influential figure in the history of contemporary American art.
Outside the center, at the Bois de Boulogne, the Fondation Louis Vuitton is housed in an impressive building by Frank Gehry. Those who have the time and the inclination to walk 15-20 minutes in the Paris cold, from the metro station Pont de Neuilly, will be rewarded with the retrospective of Gerhard Richter. Meanwhile, photography lovers should head up to Montmartre to visit Le Bal and see the winer of Young Creators Award ,Marie Quéau in her ssolo exhibition “Fury” which runs until 8/2/26.
And let us not forget the artists and architects who left their mark on art and are connected with the month: the artists: Takashi Murakami, Olafur Eliasson, Gerhard Richter, Robert Morris, Lawrence Weiner, Joan Mitchell, Sigmar Polke, Zao Wou-Ki, Katharina Fritsch, Franz West, Yoko Ono, Mariko Mori, Heidi Bucher, Martin Kippenberger and the architects: Alvar Aalto and Louis Kahn.
