OPEN CALL: G. & A. Mamidakis Foundation Art Prize 2026

The G. & A. Mamidakis Foundation Art Prize promotes and financially supports contemporary artists with the ultimate goal of highlighting excellence in the arts.

Our deep love for art, combined with the desire to support and promote the advancement of artistic creativity, led to the establishment of the annual G. & A. Mamidakis Foundation Art Prize in 2019, a culmination of the Foundation’s thirty-year long effort to strengthen and promote leadership and innovation in the visual arts.

The Art Prize supports contemporary artists by offering them the opportunity to create a new, site-specific artwork which will remain on permanent display in Agios Nikolaos, Crete, will become part of the Foundation’s art collection, and will join an important cultural heritage as well.

The Art Prize 2026 invites artists from around the world to submit proposals for a large-scale sculptural installation designed for permanent display in an outdoor setting, serving as a distinctive landmark within the space. The winning proposal will stand out for its originality, site-specificity, creative vision as well as its long-term sustainability.

The selected proposal will be awarded the amount of 15,000 euros, and the Foundation will also cover the construction of the work. The selected artist will have from January until the end of May 2026 to create their proposed work, which will be presented to the public in the summer of 2026 and remain on permanent display in Agios Nikolaos, Crete.

The Art Prize 2026 is open to visual artists working in the fields of sculpture, installation, sound installation, mixed media, works using natural materials, land art, environmental art, ecological art, and practices that interweave art and nature to create innovative experiences in open-air environments.

Deadline for applications: December 29, 2025, 11:59pm Greek time. Applications are to be submitted exclusively through the dedicated form on the Foundation’s website.
