OPEN CALL: MASEREEL Residencies 2026
MASEREEL—Centre for Contemporary Art welcomes applications from artists wishing to develop their practice during six-week residencies in Kasterlee, Belgium.
Artists from around the world, at any stage of their career and working across all visual disciplines, come to MASEREEL to discover the many possibilities offered by its professionally equipped printmaking studios and to be challenged by inspiring exchanges with fellow residents and visiting tutors. Prior experience with printmaking is not required—specialised master printers are available daily to instruct and support residents throughout their process.
From June to December 2026, MASEREEL will host three residency periods, each accommodating up to nine artists. All participants are housed in a newly built artist pavilion that combines private living quarters with shared communal spaces, fostering both individual focus and collective dialogue.
MASEREEL’s experimental residency programme centres on creation, development and dialogue.
More information about this Open Call for Development Residencies, including participation fees, residency dates, application guidelines, and selection criteria, and the online application form are available on MASEREEL’s website.
Deadline for applications: October 21, 2025, 11am (CET)
About MASEREEL
Initiated in 1972 in northern Belgium, MASEREEL is a centre for contemporary art that combines a dynamic, artist-driven artistic programme with an international residency programme for both artists and critics, with a particular emphasis on printed matter at large.
In recent years, the MASEREEL residency programme has emerged as one of the most stimulating and rigorous environments for contemporary artistic development. Its exceptional printmaking facilities, combined with a distinctly international, multidisciplinary, and intergenerational community of artists, foster an atmosphere of experimentation and critical exchange. This unique constellation enables participants to both expand and intensify their practice within a context that challenges conventional boundaries.
As part of its artistic programme, MASEREEL alternates annually between RHIZOMA—a biennial for contemporary art that activates a network of indoor and outdoor venues within walking distance, presenting newly commissioned works and pieces never before shown in Belgium—and Open Masereel, a vibrant public programme featuring new commissions, solo presentations by alumni, highlights from the collection, and discursive events such as lectures and book launches. Outside of these public moments, MASEREEL remains exclusively accessible to resident artists, cultivating an environment conducive to focused creation and reflection.
MASEREEL is an initiative of the Flemish Community.
