OPEN CALL: Seeking Professor of Painting beginning 2026 at University of the Arts Bremen

The Department of Art and Design/Diploma Programme in Fine Arts at the HfK is seeking to appoint a
Professor of Painting (f/m/d), salary bracket W3, status of civil servant with unlimited tenure, (reference number WP 25/11) as of April 1, 2026.
The University of the Arts is looking for an artist whose outstanding work in the field of painting makes a significant contribution to international contemporary art. Teaching should encompass the study of fine arts with a focus on painting and related contemporary discourses.
Applicants must have at least one year of teaching experience at a university or comparable institution, a relevant university degree in fine arts. They should be able to teach and communicate the role of the painting within fine arts.
We are looking for a suitable candidate who is qualified to take on a professorship through outstanding artistic achievements and several years of successful international exhibition experience in the above-mentioned field of teaching, as well as teaching experience and pedagogical aptitude.
Active participation in the further development of the University of the Arts Bremen, collegial cooperation and participation in academic self-governing bodies are expected (official language: German). The professorship requires presence and continuous commitment to work on site at the university. The ability and willingness to teach in German and English is expected.
In addition, the employment requirements pursuant to Section 116 of the Bremen Civil Service Act apply.
