OPEN CALL: Flatten The Curve-Videomarathon 2025

The JULIA STOSCHEK FOUNDATION and Filmwerkstatt Düsseldorf invite artists who live or work in North Rhine- Westphalia to submit a single-channel video work with a maximum duration of eight minutes. Eligible are works created between 2021 and 2025. Each artist or collective may submit one work only. Selected contributions will receive a screening fee of €80 and will be presented during the two-day video marathon „Flatten The Curve”—a project within the series „Die Zeit, die bleibt“ (The Time That Remains), curated by Lou von der Heyde.

„Flatten The Curve” will take place on 20 and 21 September 2025 at Filmwerkstatt Düsseldorf. The program will feature up to 150 short, single-channel video works, showcasing a wide range of artistic approaches and temporal contexts – from historical works from the JULIA STOSCHEK COLLECTION to recent productions by both international and regional artists. The selection includes works by Cauleen Smith, Mark Leckey, Martha Rosler, and Barbara Hammer, along with contributions by invited artists. The program will also feature works by emerging artists based in North Rhine-Westphalia, selected via this open call. Final selection will be made by an independent jury.

By juxtaposing past and present works, the program seeks to highlight developments, ruptures, and continuities within the field of video art. The screening schedule will be divided into thematic sections, interspersed with breaks that offer space for conversation, reflection, and exchange among audiences, artists, and curators.

A highlight of the program is a masterclass with Ed Atkins on the second day. Represented in the video marathon with his work Even Pricks, Atkins will work in a mentoring capacity with participants – primarily students and emerging artists – on their individual projects. The masterclass provides a framework for open dialogue, artistic reflection, and personal feedback.
