SOCIAL ART: Pop Up Art Athina 2025

On the occasion of Pop Up Art Athina 2025, which opened on May 29, 2025, and runs for an entire month, we wander through the spaces of the Atheneum InterContinental Hotel, encountering faces and artworks, and revisit the pieces of the hotel’s permanent collection. This collection includes works by over 300 contemporary Greek artists, now engaged in a new dialogue with the newly installed pieces in the lobby and basement level (-1), creating a fresh narrative for both the hotel guest and the exhibition visitor. Notably, the hotel — whose President is Mr. Dakis Joannou, the most prominent Greek art collector and one of the most important internationally — has featured artworks in nearly all its spaces since its construction in 1981. Since then, a historic collection has been gradually built, featuring established artists from the 1960s generation such as Takis and Diohandi, to George Lappas, Stelios Faitakis, and younger artists who have left their mark both on the Greek and international visual arts scene with their timeless works.-Efi Michalarou
