OPEN CALL: 2025 Il Posto/Afterall Editorial and Research Fellowship

The Il Posto–Afterall Editorial and Research Fellowship is a unique opportunity for an individual to join the Afterall Research Centre at Central Saint Martins (CSM) as the Il Posto Fellow. The Fellow will contribute to the editorial and research activities of the Afterall Journal, with a focus on enriching Latin American narratives in contemporary art in relation to Il Posto’s programmes and collections. The role involves collaborating with the Afterall team to produce the journal, commission content, and organise public-facing events, while also engaging in the broader research and cultural production activities of the Centre.

Your profile
You will be educated to at least a higher degree level (e.g. MA, MFA) in a relevant subject area—including Art History and Theory, Curatorial Studies, Latin American Studies—and will demonstrate experience in editorial work, research, and publishing, preferably in contemporary art or cultural studies.

You will also exhibit evidence of research, teaching, knowledge exchange and/or professional practice that contributes to the advancement of relevant activity and is relevant to the goals of Il Posto and Afterall.

Strong communication, organisation and teamwork skills, as well as professional fluency in Spanish, will also be essential for success in this role.

Employee must have settled status. Employment is conditional upon the Employee having and maintaining the legal right to work in the UK.

Job title: Il Posto–Afterall Editorial and Research Fellow / Location: Central Saint Martins (CSM), University of the Arts London (UAL), Afterall Research Centre / Contract type: Fixed Term (12 months) / Reporting to: Dr. Adeena Mey / Salary/Financial Contribution: 25,000 GBP / Hours per week/FTE: 3.5 days/week / 0.7 FTE.

About Il Posto and Afterall
ll Posto is an artspace advocated to the conservation, study and diffusion of contemporary art from Chile and Latinoamerica. We believe that art and the discussions around it promote the development of critical thinking and open up new perspectives and reflections on our contemporaneity. Through exhibitions, research, and content produced especially for them, Il Posto promotes collaborative instances between artists, curators, researchers, and collectors in the region. Il Posto collection is made up of more than 400 pieces of Chilean and Latin American art produced from the 1970s to the present. In addition, Il Posto has Il Posto Documentos, a Research and Documentation Center with a Library and a Documentary Archive open to the public.

Afterall is a Research Centre of University of the Arts London, located at Central Saint Martins in King’s Cross. The Centre is part of an international research network, working in collaboration with institutions in Europe, North America and South East Asia. Afterall produces a journal, several strands of publications under the Afterall Books imprint and makes selected articles freely accessible at Afterall Online.

The role is a collaboration between Il Posto and Afterall with the financial support of Stellart. University of the Arts London will not provide a stipend to support the work Editorial and Research Fellow or reimburse any expenses incurred. The Editor and Research Fellow will have free access to UAL Library and Learning Resources, such as UAL archives. He/she will be issued with a UAL email account and with a photo ID card that permits entry to buildings and borrowing privileges from the University’s libraries.
