Jean Nouvel is without doubt France’s most important contemporary architect. From 1967 to 1970, he was an assistant of the architects Claude Parent and Paul Virilio, later creating his own office in Paris. His first widely acclaimed project was the Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris. Since then, highlights of his illustrious career include the Lyon Opera House, the Fondation Cartier, the Agbar Tower on Barcelona’s Diagonal Avenue, the extension of the Reina Sofía Museum in Madrid, the Quai Branly Museum on the Seine in Paris and the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Jean Nouvel worked for five years with author Philip Jodidio on this illustrated monograph.  The Collector’s Edition “Nouvel Vague” by Taschen Publications is limited to 1,000 signed and numbered copies packaged in a translucent plexiglass slipcase reminiscent of the translucent facades often seen in his designs. With 898 pages in two volumes the monograph gives the most complete overview of Jean Nouvel’s career till 2008, including works that were progress such as the new Louvre in Abu Dhabi, the Philharmonie de Paris, and the extension of the MoMA in New York.-Dimitris Lempesis
