1.prop.16-17.02Founded in 1948, the École cantonale d’art du Valais (ECAV) has been affiliated since 2008 with the HES-SO. Due to its specific location in the heart of the Valais alps, above the city of Sierre, ECAV has established a significant identity. Switzerland’s linguistic and cultural differences are well-represented among the students and teachers. Moreover, ECAV tradition is one of international exchange and collaborations in research, art production and pedagogy. Over the years, the particular landscape and cultural situation where ECAV is situated has become one of its central research and investigation themes. This artistic and creative reflection evolves within its own special atmosphere and defies most customary approaches.The school offers numerous options for housing and, an ideal lifestyle for studies, research and creation.

The Hansjoerg Wyss Scholarship

Since 2001, the Hansjoerg Wyss Scholarship is yearly granted to 5 to 6 students from Africa, Asia or Latin-America and allow them to undertake a Bachelor or a Master degree at the Ecole cantonale d’Art du Valais (ECAV). The Hansjoerg Wyss Scholarship covers: school fees, accommodation, and a contributory stipend.

Eligibility

For the BA program: we welcome applications from artists up to 30 years of age. Proficiency in French (required level: A2).

For the MAPS program: we welcome applications regardless of the age limit. Proficiency in English, written and oral. French level A2 is a plus.

Selections are based on the quality of the work, on the potential of the research, as well as on financial need.

Bachelor in Fine arts candidates for the Hansjoerg Wyss Scholarship:

  2. A motivation letter
  3. A letter of recommendation from a teacher of home institution
  4. A curriculum vitae
  5. A portfolio of artistic works
  6. Copies of the diplomas (high school degrees)
  7. A copy of the passport
  8. A certificate proving knowledge of the French language (level required: A2)
  9. 1 photo

Master of Arts in Public Spheres candidates for the Hansjoerg Wyss Scholarship:

  1. Application form duly completed (to be downloaded in the MA admission section) http://www.ecav.ch/en/
  2. A motivation letter
  3. A statement of educational goals, including a project focusing to the art in public spheres, including relevant references for the project
  4. 2 recommendation letters from artists, theoreticians or former teachers
  5. A curriculum vitae
  6. A portfolio documenting the works and research
  7. Copies of the diplomas (Bachelor degree and other relevant certificates)
  8. A copy of the passport
  9. 1 photo

The admission selection committees of the BA and the MA, in agreement with representatives of the Hansjoerg Wyss Scholarship foundation, will examine the applications. Applicants will be shortlisted for interviews and eventually notified the results via e-mail.
