OPEN CALL: K11 Art Foundation Launches Contemporary Art Prize For Emerging Asian Artists

K11 Art Foundation announces the launch of a new contemporary art prize: the K11 Artist Prize, which aims to provide emerging Asian artists with a significant platform for recognition and advancement. The K11 Artist Prize presents a unique opportunity for the selected artist to participate in an exhibition presented by the K11 Art Foundation. The selected artist will be revealed at a gala ceremony during the opening of the K11 Art Foundation’s flagship exhibition in Hong Kong in March, 2024, coinciding with Art Basel Hong Kong.

The creation of the K11 Artist Prize has been spearheaded by the K11 Art Foundation International Council. Dr. Adrian Cheng, Founder of the K11 Art Foundation, unveiled the formation of this Council in September, 2023. Under the leadership of Dr. Alia Al-Senussi, the K11 Artist Prize is a pivotal step in the Foundation’s commitment to supporting the next generation of Asian artists. The awarded artist will not only gain critical exposure through an exhibition but will also receive mentorship from members of the K11 Art Foundation International Council including Chairperson Alia Al-Senussi and Founding Members A4 Arts Foundation, Basma Al Sulaiman, Sarah Arison, Eugenio Re Rebaudengo and Olga Re Rebaudengo, and Patrizia Sandretto Re Rebaudengo.

In addition, the K11 Artist Prize presents a range of other opportunities that facilitate the selected artist’s professional development, including but are not limited to participation in:

–One of the exhibitions by the K11 Art Foundation in 2024–2026
–A two-month residency opportunity at the K11 art village in Wuhan, China in 2024–2026
–A day at Art Basel Hong Kong 2024, hosted by the K11 Art Foundation International Council’s chairperson Dr. Alia Al-Senussi, together with the K11 Art Foundation
–Global interaction and bespoke mentoring sessions with prominent members of the K11 Art Foundation International Council in 2024–2025
–One K11 MASTERCLASS in 2024–2025 (an online cultural academic programme run by K11, with average views over 10k in the WeChat communities)
–K11 Artist Prize alumni network

Applications for the K11 Artist Prize are open from December 1, 2023February 7, 2024.

Eligibility criteria
–Asian or ethnic Asian artists, with no restriction on the current place of residence or work
–Individuals or artist collectives
–Open to all ages and art practices
–Have been active in the art industry within the past 5–10 years
