OPEN CALL: Seeking Two Professors Of Architecture And Construction At ETH Zürich

The Department of Architecture at ETH Zurich invites applications for two professorships in architecture and construction. They are located at the Institute of Design and Architecture IEA.

The new professors are mainly responsible for teaching a design studio and giving lectures for students in the bachelor’s and master’s degree programme in Architecture (incl. master thesis) and shall teach theoretical foundations, methodological skills and specialized knowledge in the field of constructive design with focus on sustainable construction. They should consider contemporary and traditional building techniques, emerging building industry practices and norms, materials and their supply chains, circular economy, digital fabrication, and socio-economic impacts of resource extraction. Contemporary digital design and production techniques are an integral part of the sustainable architectural debate.

The new professors are expected to propose and develop a state-of-the-art research agenda with regard to developments, influences and opportunities in the field of low carbon architecture and construction. They will cooperate with chairs among the department and across different departments. Of particular importance is the collaboration with the existing chairs at the Institute of Design and Architecture.

The successful candidates must have a substantial built oeuvre and competence in design and realization of high-quality buildings, especially with regard to sustainable building construction. Their qualifications include undergraduate and graduate university degrees, accreditation by architects and usually experience, both in research and teaching. Responsible leadership of a group of employees and the commitment to help develop the Department of Architecture beyond the boundaries of their own field of expertise are expected. In general, at ETH Zurich courses are taught in German or English.
