MIRAGES LXXI

Yayoi Kusama, 2020 (detail), courtesy the artist and David Zwirner GalleryThis February the landscape in art looks cloudy-hazy and fuzzy, with the majority of the Museums and the Institutions closed while the Galleries are making a truly titanic effort to keep them open, as far as the measures  of each country for the pandemic allow with their mood at the limit and the emotions leaping between patience and perseverance… in a “War” that looks like it will last another 2-3 years, everyone is wondering if reality be replaced by virtual reality and if so, in which way? Art is an emotive process and not at all visual, it is not the epitome of the activity of the neurons in the retina, on the contrary (!) In such a difficult time that everything seems to be paused and waiting, a mail came from David Zwirner Gallery with the subject: “Yayoi Kusama Returns, KUSAMA: COSMIC NATURE at the Botanical Garden in New York”, like the flowering almond trees in the winter, to illuminate all the dark corners of the mind and soul, reviving us with the hope that after this dark period, humanity will walk in new bright paths (!)
