TRAVELER’S DIARY: HYDRA BY ART-Part IΙ

Gitonikon, Hydra Island, GreeceOn the occasion of the exhibition “AWE” curated by Dimitris Antonitsis in the context of Hydra School Project’s, we are making a visual tour in the narrow streets and the alleys of Hydra Island for the different spaces that he choose to presents artworks of the exhibition, on the occasion of the 20th edition of Hydra School Project’s. Explaining to our readers the history and the usage of each space, on an island whose every corner is intertwined with art and architecture, music and poetry. So after the Merchant Marine Academy that is on show the main body of the works, we are heading to one of the Island’s older restaurants “Gitonikon” located at Spiliou Harami Square. “Gitonikon” is for many years a meeting point for Greek and foreign artists and intellectuals for its terrace and service, the fresh and selected fishes and meat, its unique traditional dishes, all in really very affordable prices (!) But the reason we visited “Gitonikon” this time is art, in its main space is hosting  four artworks of the exhibition “Awe” waiting to be discovered till 20/9/19. The new owner, Mrs. Popi Spetsiotis is not only an art lover, but as we have been told, she also has a small collection of artworks, bought through hard work over the years, with love and passion.-Efi Michalarou
