ART-REVIEW:Tacita Dean and Julie Mehretu

Exhibition View, Tacita Dean & Julie Mehretu, Marian Goodman Gallery-Paris, Courtesy the artists and Marian Goodman Gallery-New York/Paris/LondonThe coexistence of two different artists in the space of a gallery is a common phenomenon, the good coexistence of great and important artists is a safe road to the success of the exhibition. The coexistence of the well-known and established artist Tacita Dean with her long-time friend but non so well-known Julie Mehretu, is really a tango for two, the success of the dance depends on the coordination of the dancers steps(!) This is evident on the ground floor and lower level of Marian Goodman Gallery in Paris, because the works of the works of the one artist are inserted into the works of the other without disturbing the viewer, contrary is created a puzzle of images and vibrating emotions that vibrate, creating the frequency variations of a musical piece that you cannot understand why you like it, but the factor of success is the harmony. This fact is more obvious at the lower level of the gallery, where the artists created the installation “Monotype Melody (ninety works for Marian Goodman)” where the two artists decided to create in parallel 45 monotypes each.–Efi Michalarou
