nangoldin 06If women in contemporary art were few and in recent years proliferated, in the history of visual photography are still few, but really very good with dynamic personalities and many of them have passed the trial by fire and iron.

Their themes change from the children’s portraits and family photos with sociological extensions of: Dorothea Lang, Julia Margaret Cameron and Diane Arbus, to the captivating images of the Second World War, by Lee Miller (the gorgeous model of Man Ray), daughter of the American photographer Theodor Miller. She is the first woman together with the American photographer David Sherman, father of Cindy Sherman, captures the horror, but also the contribution of women in the Second World War, across Europe. The avant-garde Ellie Sougioultzoglou Seraidari (aka Nelly’s), who dares to take nude photos of Mona Paeva in the Acropolis of Athens (1929), also and the Greek Professions, Mount Athos, and not only… Her photos since 1945 decorated the tankers of Aristoteles Onassis and travelled in the seven seas. The female identity and its role in the American society captured by Cindy Sherman. The Sexuality and the contemporary social problems touched by the lens of Nan Goldin.
