ART-PRESENTATION: Helmut Middendorf-Kick Out the Jams

Entitled ”Kick Out the Jams”, influenced by the first unofficial punk song (1969) of MC5 (the band manager John Sinclair was co-founder of the White Panther Party and sentenced to 10 years in prison in 1969 for his political activities), Helmut Middendorf, cofounder of Galerie am Moritzplatz in Kreuzberg, Berlin in 1977, along with other artists named Young Wild (Neue Wilde), because they wanted to portray reality in their own way, exhibits artworks of the early neo-expressionist period of the 80s and a series of acrylics on paper of the same period, at the Eleni Koroneou Gallery. Middendorf converts images of daily life into large dimension artworks on paper, limiting reality in selected details. His painting, on large-scale canvases combines hard and aggressive colors with strong contrast. It is gestural painting, wherein the conversion is rapid and spontaneous. His artworks refer to personal experiences, illustrate images from everyday life, focusing on the human figure, architecture, music and more widely to everyday life in a metropolis like Berlin.
