ART PRESENTATION:Group Exhibition Like

In the group exhibition “Like”, the artist Angelos Skourtis, acted as curator/non-curator, after asking the artists themselves to choose their artwork, they like and represent them for this exhibition. “I did not work as theorist or art historian. I do not classify or label the artistic work. This is a work for the art theorists whom I respect. I acted like a man of the guild, I invited artists and they had chosen the artwork that will expose and this because I think that the word –Exhibit comprises both the -Responsibility – and the – Absolute Freedom- that must have the artist”. As stated by the curator-artist Angelos Skourtis the artists they were called to participate are representing different expressive trends, ranging from Aspa Stasinopoulou and Diohandi that represented Greece at the 54th Venice Biennale in 2011 to the very young George Theodoridis. “The older because they kept during the whole duration of their artistic career their work at a high level and the newer because he believes judging by the work they have done so far, that their course will prove that he is right”. Nowadays, as stated by Mr. Skourtis “Is freest than in the decades of 60’s and 70’s, where a group exhibition should either had common thematic concept and the artists had belong to a particular movement: Minimalist, conceptual art or in any other movement of that era. Unlike today, that there is a lot of freedom and pluralism of the expression means and artists from different generations coexist and interact in all major group exhibitions in Greece and abroad”, and continues, “The purpose of this exhibition (Like) is the use of the internet and social media to present and promote the art. Disconnecting them from the profile that are identified until now and at the same time is an opportunity to use the internet for cultural purposes, expanding the circle of viewers beyond the physical visitors, in a wide circle of visitors worldwide. The virtual visitors can see, identify, write their opinion, to communicate with the artists themselves, to promote the images of the artworks in their virtual or not and finaly to press the like button in t=Facebook, this new form of communication.”
