ART-PRESENTATION:Words of Wisdom
“Words of Wisdom”: is the title of the Group exhibition, the main concept is the words of Epicurus “While one is young, let us not postpone for the future the love for wisdom”. Thus in the works of artists the wisdom appears in text references that are part of their works. The artists, approach ethical issues and social problems to communicate their beliefs, supporting equality. Sarantis Gagas in his paintings and installations uses the letter of Epicurus to Herodotus for the concept of time. The iterations may be associated with Buddhism and the belief that foresight comes when you deal with boring everyday chores. Renee Magnanti uses motifs accompanied by texts. Combining motif and writing from different cultures achieves multicultural dialogues. Within her drawings are scattered whole words or part of words, related to the work of women and their role in society. The motifs sometimes based on traditional art forms and checked against letters declaring injustices committed against women. Zafos Xagoraris in the “Analytic Series” presents mainly drawings, mechanisms and events in public places that focus on recent or very specific historical conditions. The references as shown in the video, describe, compare and explain the way in which the regulations specify the public place. Presenting legal texts from different geographical areas, which prohibit a hypothetical public behavior, representing this illegal act. His black and white paintings and drawings, describe actions unfolding public, while associated with urban reality and the people who live in this area. Bill Pangburn focuses on the meaning of time, revealing the allegorical, through the water, using linear motifs. While the metaphysics of water is his main concern, he is also interested in the role of water in everyday life. Dealing with water can be attributed to the sensitivity of on the drought that has plagued Texas, the city where he was born, for the environmental degradation and wasteful use of it , issues that lead to increased competition for water.
